Haiti Solidarity

 On Tuesday, April 28, in the Cabaret, The Marist College Praxis Project for Public Citizenship and Campus Ministry held a Haiti Solidarity to support the nation of Haiti, recovering from January's devastating earthquake.  The day-long event conducted lectures, displays, music, films, and a presentation by students, faculty and guests on the social and political situation in Haiti before and after the earthquake.

A student volunteer explains the astounding statistics that 1.1 billion people on the planet do not have access to clean, safe, drinking water.  Liquidwater.com offers a solution to this dire situation by building wells with donations made to the organization.

The Hudson Valley Cafe featured Organic Haitian dishes such as soup joumou, Haitian salad, Vegan griots, fride pork, rice red beans, mango cake, and coconut island coffee.

This display sold cards for a dollar to send to victims in Haiti.  All proceeds went to Partners in Health, H.E.L.O, and the Marist Brothers in Haiti.

Senior Loic Sessagesimi serves heat to his St. John's opponent, Mike Lampa, at third doubles.  Marist defeated St. John's 4 - 3.

Sessagesimi of Blonay, Switzerland is one of the talented international student athletes at Marist College, finishing with 20 total wins including a perfect 6-0 against conference foes in the 2008-09 season.

David and Patricia Hanlon, and family dog Ruby, enjoy the first signs of spring on a walk along Canandaigua Lake.  Canandaigua Lake is the fourth largest of the eleven Finger Lakes in New York, and called the "Chosen Spot" in Seneca Language.  The City of Canandaigua has been a boom for tourism in the region with Roseland Waterpark offering family entertainment in the form of waterslides, wave-pools and beach lounging. Along the shore of the lake, Canandaigua hosts the New York Wine and Culinary Center. The Canandaigua Lady, a 19th century replica of a double-decker paddlewheel also offers a unique variety of experiences with lake cruises, narrated sightseeing excursions, lunch and sunset dinner cruises.

Portraits

The Barrett Art Center in Poughkeepsie offers a variety of art classes from beginner to advanced levels.  Seth Nadel teaches landscape painting with oils in an impressionist style.  The smaller class size allows students to receive personal attention in a relaxed and helpful environment.

Students rush from class out of the cold to the cafeteria, racing to beat the dinnertime rush.

Pizza is a necessity in the cafeteria for hungry college students.

It may not be mom's cooking, but the staff here brings the feeling of home, always helpful and friendly.

Sushi is one of the popular, healthy additions to the Cabaret menu.

The Cabaret offers an alternative dining area to the cafeteria, allowing students to handpick their meal and eat in a quieter setting.
